The Cape Town Marathon Expo is a three-day event that takes place in the days leading up to the Cape Town Marathon.

The expo is a one-stop shop for all things running, and you can expect to see some of the latest footwear, apparel, and technologies from leading sports brands.

The event is a must if you want to learn more about the Cape Town marathon and its associated events.

Where Does The Cape Town Marathon Expo Take Place?

The Cape Town Marathon Expo usually takes place two to three days before the marathon. The location of the event is at the Cape Town Stadium, which is situated in Green Point.

How Do I Get To Cape Town Marathon Expo?

The Cape Town Stadium is easily accessible by public transport. I strongly suggest that you use the MyCiTi bus. They have stops close to the DHL Stadium.

Another convenient option for getting to the Cape Town Marathon venue is to use e-hailing services like Uber and Bolt. These services can drop you off within walking distance of the venue.

If you plan to drive to the Cape Town Marathon Expo, please be aware that parking options will be limited.

Parking directly close to the Expo won’t be available, so the closest parking you can find is approximately a kilometer and a half (1 mile) away from the Expo.

Parking facilities will be provided at the Silo or Battery Park Parking Garages in the V&A Waterfront area. It’s essential to note that these two garages are exclusively open to Sanlam Cape Town Marathon participants.

Access to Dock Road, the route leading to these parking garages, will close at 6 a.m., so be sure to arrive on time to secure your spot.

Tickets for this secure parking option in the Silo and Battery Park Parking Garages at the V&A Waterfront will cost R100 ($6) per vehicle. This ensures you have a convenient and safe parking spot while you enjoy the marathon and expo events.

Tips For Attending The Cape Town Marathon Expo

  • Arrive Early
  • Bring A Bag
  • Comfy Shoes
  • Stay Hydrated
  • Remember To Have Fun
  • Attend Seminars
  • Ask Questions
  • Avoid Trying Freebies
  • Make Use Of Discounts
  • Do Not Spend Too Much Time At The Expo

Arrive Early

Arriving at the Expo early, especially on the opening day (on Thursday), offers several advantages for a more enjoyable experience.

The first day typically sees fewer visitors, allowing you to navigate the venue with ease and engage in meaningful conversations with exhibitors.

This early access increases your chances of securing freebies and exclusive deals from vendors, as many items may have limited availability.

Moreover, you can take your time to explore the entire event, attend seminars, and get your questions answered without the rush and hustle that comes with larger crowds on subsequent days.

So, set your alarm a bit earlier, grab your comfy shoes, and head to the Expo early to make the most of your visit.

Bring A Bag

Bringing a backpack or tote bag to the Expo is a smart move that will enhance your overall experience.

Throughout the event, you’ll encounter a plethora of free samples, promotional materials, and even items you might want to purchase.

Having a bag on hand will not only keep your hands free but also make it easier to collect and carry these goodies.

It’s a practical solution that ensures you can comfortably explore the Expo, gather information, and load up on the freebies and purchases you come across, all while keeping your hands unburdened.

Wear Comfy Shoes

With so much to do and places to visit at the expo, you’ll likely find yourself on your feet for extended periods, traversing various booths and displays. To ensure you can fully enjoy the event without any foot-related discomfort, choosing the right footwear is crucial.

Comfortable and supportive shoes should be your go-to choice for such occasions. Opt for shoes that provide cushioning and stability, as these features can help prevent foot pain, fatigue, and even blisters. While stylish footwear is always tempting, prioritize functionality over fashion for this outing.

While flip-flops and sandals might be your go-to choice for a beach day, they may not be the best option for an event that involves a lot of walking. These types of footwear typically lack the arch support and cushioning needed to keep your feet comfortable when you’re on them for an extended period.

Stay Hydrated

When you head to the Cape Town Marathon Expo, you might spend quite a few hours checking out all the new products, tech gear, and exhibits. To make sure you feel good and full of energy during your time there, remember to drink enough water.

A simple way to do this is by bringing your own water bottle that you can fill up whenever you need to. It’s a smart move because it keeps you feeling fresh and helps you avoid spending extra money on bottled water at the Expo.

Remember To Have Fun

The Cape Town Marathon Expo isn’t just a place for shopping and getting information; it’s a lively celebration of all things running and fitness!

As you explore the Expo, take the time to soak up the positive and energetic atmosphere that fills the air. Engage with fellow runners, both novices and seasoned athletes, who share your passion for the sport.

Enjoy being part of this amazing running community! Whether you’re looking for new running gear, expert tips, or just some inspiration, you’ll find it all at the Expo. It’s a lively and friendly place where everyone shares the same passion for running.

So, relish the moment, celebrate your love for running, and enjoy every aspect of this memorable event.

Attend Seminars

Don’t miss the opportunity to attend the seminars and talks hosted at the Cape Town Marathon Expo.

These sessions cover a wide range of topics related to running, training, nutrition, and race strategy. They provide a valuable source of information and insight, delivered by experts in the field of running and fitness.

Whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner or a newcomer to the sport, attending a seminar or two can significantly enhance your knowledge and race preparation.

You’ll gain valuable tips, learn about the latest trends, and have the chance to ask questions directly to experts, all of which can contribute to a more successful and enjoyable marathon experience.

Ask Questions

Feel free to engage with the vendors and exhibitors at the Cape Town Marathon Expo.

They are there to assist and provide information about their products or services.

Whether you have inquiries about a specific running accessory, nutrition product, or any other aspect related to running and fitness, this is an excellent chance to get direct answers from knowledgeable experts.

Don’t be shy to strike up conversations, ask questions, and explore what they have to offer.

The Expo is not only a shopping experience but also a valuable opportunity to gather insights, discover new products, and make informed decisions that can enhance your running journey.

Avoid Trying Freebies

When you visit the Cape Town Marathon Expo, you’ll likely come across numerous free samples and product demonstrations.

While it’s tempting to try everything, exercise caution when sampling new foods or supplements, especially with the marathon just around the corner.

Introducing unfamiliar substances to your diet right before the race can be risky. You’ll want to avoid anything that might upset your stomach or have an adverse impact on your performance on the big day.

Stick to what you know works for you, and save the experimentation for after the race.

Your focus should be on staying healthy and energized for the marathon, so be mindful of what you consume during your Expo visit.

Make Use Of Discounts

While you’re at the Cape Town Marathon Expo, keep an eye out for exclusive discounts and promotions offered by various vendors.

These special deals can be a money-saving opportunity, especially if you’ve had your eye on specific running gear or accessories for after the marathon.

Marathon-related items like running shoes, clothing, hydration gear, and nutrition supplements may be available at discounted prices. But remember that these should not be tried on race day.

Don’t miss out on the chance to score some bargains and enhance your marathon experience without breaking the bank. It’s a win-win situation that allows you to both prepare for a future race and save money in the process.

Do Not Spend Too Much Time At The Expo

While the Cape Town Marathon Expo is an exciting and vibrant place to be, it’s very important to remember that you’re gearing up for the big race day, and conserving your energy is crucial.

It’s incredibly easy to get caught up in the Expo’s lively atmosphere, exploring booths, engaging with vendors, and soaking in the running spirit. However, it’s essential to strike a balance.

Consider this: You’ll soon be running a marathon, covering a significant distance on your feet. Spending excessive time standing and walking at the Expo can lead to fatigue, which is the last thing you want before the race.

To ensure you’re in the best possible shape for the marathon, it’s wise to limit your visit to the Expo to 1-2 hours.

This time frame allows you to enjoy all the Expo has to offer while also granting you precious moments to rest your legs, both physically and mentally preparing for the race.

So, while you’re having a blast at the Expo, keep an eye on the clock to strike the perfect balance between enjoyment and preservation of your race-day energy.
