5 Things You Should AVOID Doing At The London Marathon Running Show

  1. Spending an unnecessary amount of time looking at everything.

One of the key elements of an expo is getting in and getting out.

You can see everything by going through the memorabilia shop, choosing a few items that you want to see, making sure you get registered, and then spending 45 minutes to a maximum of an hour at an expo. The earlier you go in the week, the more time you can afford to spend.

It’s tempting because you want to soak up the atmosphere but the reality is that the more time you spend at the expo the more time you’re going to cost yourself on race day.

  1. Wearing the wrong shoes.

Something you need to consider when you go to the London Marathon running show is the shoes that you wear.

You will probably stand in queues for longer than you would like and walk around the expo without even realizing how much distance you are covering…

Make sure your shoes are the most comfortable shoes you own. Even if you wear your running shoes, as long as they have support so that your feet aren’t working too hard.

Flip-flops are a no-go – they provide little to no support.

  1. Buy if you want but don’t try.

The running show is filled with new gadgets, great deals, and specials. It is an awesome place to buy new gear and equipment.

Make sure you are NOT trying any of the new gear and equipment on race day!

It could ruin your race performance.

In particular… nutritional supplements. “Freebies”

You might think… “ah great! Now I don’t have to bring my nutrition on race day because I got all this stuff for free”…

This is a bad idea.  The supplements that you haven’t trained with could lead to gastrointestinal issues which would impact race day performance.

Massage and massage guns: If you are not accustomed to massage, this could lead to bruising and discomfort on race day.

  1. Using the goodie bag.

When you get your event pack you will also receive a goodie bag filled with more free supplements and other trinkets.

Our suggestion: Put the goodie bag in your car and only look at it after race day. Unless it’s a product you’ve used throughout your training.

  1. Eating food from expo food stands.

We advise runners to stick as closely to foods that they are used to as possible.
A good idea is to grab yourself a sandwich or something you are used to eating… The goal is to try and avoid spending race day in portaloos.
